Livingston, NJ - The Livingston Police Department announced that it will issue its fourth edition of its municipal law enforcement trading cards.

On the front, the cards will feature photos of Livingston police officers performing their duties or enjoying one of their hobbies. On the reverse side, the card will have the officer’s biographical data and a safety message, police said.

“The goal of this program is to reach out to as many children as possible and get the message out to them in a format in which they can identify while creating communication and trust,” Livingston police stated in a news release.

According to police, the cards were last produced in 2004.

“This program creates a productive dialogue between the community and police officers because children will be encouraged to approach an officer in order to collect the officer’s trading card,” police stated.

Prizes will be awarded to children in kindergarten through sixth grade who collect cards in the series, although children of all ages are encouraged to collect the cards.

The kickoff to the program will be at an open house at police headquarters on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. Children who attend will be able to meet officers and collect their cards as well as enjoy light refreshments and meet McGruff the Crime Dog.
