Livingston Homeowners May Be Hit With $95 Tax Increase

Township Council introduces 2015 municipal budget.

Although the total municipal budget would shrink by 1.9 percent overall, Livingston property owners may see an average $95 increase to their taxes next year if the draft version of the 2015 town budget is approved.

During a March 23 meeting, the Livingston Township Council introduced its proposed General Fund budget for 2015, which would include a 3.5 percent tax hike for local homeowners.

There will be a final hearing on the budget at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 4, at the Livingston Municipal Building, 357 South Livingston Ave.

According to municipal reports, the average residential cost arising from the proposed budget would come to $230 per month.

Using this total, a resident would pay:

  • Public Safety - $60
  • Capital/Debt Service - $38
  • Public Library - $23
  • Insurance - $23
  • Retirement Payments - $22
  • Infrastructure Maintenance - $19
  • Solid Waste Removal - $15
  • General Administration - $12
  • Energy/Utilities - $6
  • SYLS - $4
  • Uncollected Taxes - $3
  • Street Lighting - $3
  • Human Services - $2
  • Code Enforcement - $1
