Livingston Mall Belongs to the Dogs

Over 500 animals up for adoption at the Mall on Saturday. Event continues Sunday.

On Saturday, the Livingston Mall went to the dogs — and cats — but in a good way as a part of Petsmart's first ever Tri-State Pet Super Adoption event.

More than forty animal shelters and organizations from all over the United States participated in the event and brought with them nearly 500 adoptable cats and dogs.

Among the groups that participated was the Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter, which is located just outside Livingston on Route 10 in East Hanover.

Animal lovers from all over the tri-state area packed into the Mall's parking lot to meet and greet the four-legged friends. Many fell in love with the animals and after only two hours, it was announced that over 80 dogs had already been adopted.

Also at the event, a very special guest, Miss New Jersey Ashley Shaffer, took the main stage to help highlight various animals.

One animal's story, in particular, touched the hearts of many.  Romeo, a blind canine, was found on the streets being taken care of by a female dog, who was later named Juliet.  As time went on, the two became very close.

Both dogs were rescued off of the street by the Eleventh Hour organization, whose mission is to prolong the lives of dogs that would normally be put to sleep.  If you're nterested in adopting an animal, it's not too late.  The event will resume on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m..
