Livingston Mall Helps Fight Hunger
AIA NJ architects support the community food bank during "CANstruction" Event
Simon’s Livingston Mall will host the 17th annual CANstruction design-and-build exhibition that helps fight hunger by providing canned goods to local food bank programs. The event is being held in conjunction with the New Jersey Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA-NJ) and their local AIA Newark and Suburban section.
On October 8, local architects and designers will team up for eight hours to build creative structures made entirely from canned goods, which then will remain on display in the mall through October 18. At the conclusion of the exhibit, all of the canned food will be donated to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey (CFBNJ).
“As we have for the past four years, we are pleased to once again host this exceptional event at Livingston Mall,” commented Maria Gregorius, area director of marketing and business development. “It is a great way for local architects and designers to showcase their great talent as well as give back to the community by helping those in need.”

The theme for this year’s event is “Forms of Communication”. Teams will creatively interpret the “ways and how to communicate” with their can sculptures.
CFBNJ distributes 40 million pounds of food and groceries each year, ultimately serving more than 1,000 nonprofit programs. The combined efforts of these nonprofit programs feed more than 900,000 people in 18 New Jersey counties.
