Livingston Man Arrested for Alleged Fraudulent Car Lease

He is accused of leasing a car in the name of a Short Hills resident.

Millburn police arrested a Livingston man for allegedly leasing a car in the name of a Short Hills resident.

Joseph A. Salerno, 40, was arrested after turning himself in at police headquarters on Feb. 24. He was charged with theft of identity.

Police said Salerno used personal identifying information of the victim to lease a 2010 Honda Accord from Route 22 Honda in Hillside. The victim reported on Dec. 28 he was alerted of attempts to fraudulently open credit cards in his name. Upon conducting a credit card check on himself, he learned he was listed as a co-signer on a car lease.

The investigation led to a warrant for Salerno's arrest. He was released after his arrest.
