Livingston Man And Newark Teen Arrested In Separate Break-In Attempts: Police
Several homes and cars were burglarized over the past month in Livingston. Here is a roundup of arrests.
LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston police responded to several burglaries of homes and cars in the past month, as well as attempted break-ins. They made two arrests. Here is the roundup:
Man Charged In Attempted Car Burglary
On Aug. 30, at 10:54 p.m., police responded to West Hobart Gap Road. A homeowner said he saw, via Ring cameras, that someone entered the BMW parked in the driveway. Police canvassed the area and found Siaka Christopher, 32, of Livingston, they said. He was charged with attempted burglary and taken to the Essex County Jail, police said.

Hundreds Of Dollars Stolen From BMW After School
On Sept. 1 at 7:12 p.m., police responded to Heritage Middle School on a report of break-ins to several vehicles in the parking lot. Someone entered an unlocked BMW and was able to take several hundred dollars, police said. Another unlocked BMW was entered, but the thief or thieves were tried and failed to get into a locked Jeep. The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating.

Teen Arrested After Apparent Break-In Attempt
On Sept. 5, at 4:39 a.m., police responded to South Cedar Parkway after a homeowner saw someone in the back yard, via a security camera. Police said, "Upon officers' arrival, it was found that a patio table was placed along the back of the residence," probably to gain entry. Police found a 15-year-old male from Newark in a stolen Kia that was parked a short distance from the home, they said. He was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters, where he was released to a parent. Charges are pending from the Livingston Juvenile Bureau, police said.
8 Tools Stolen From Truck
On Aug. 15, at 10:43 a.m., Livingston officers responded to a Dorsa Avenue lot on a report of a burglary to a landscaping truck, they said. The driver said four Redmax backpack blowers and four Redmax trimmers were stolen from the back of the truck overnight.
Got In Through Window
The same day, at 8:46 p.m., police responded to a North Mitchell Avenue home on a report of a burglary. The homeowner reported leaving and then coming back to a ransacked bedroom. Police said an open window in the back was the point of entry. The homeowner is compiling a list of stolen items.
BMW Stolen, Recovered In Another Town
A man told police on Aug. 18 that his 2023 BMW had been stolen from his driveway. Police responded at 7:58 a.m. to a Morningside Drive home. The victim said he was unsure if he'd left the key in the car, but it was unlocked, he said.
The BMW was recovered a short time later in Newark, police said.
