Livingston Middle School Students Got Style!

Students created clothes and accessories for the annual Project Runway-inspired contest using recycled materials.

Livingston middle school fashionistas showed their flair for creating fashionable and vintage wearable art in a Project Runway-inspired design contest.

Ten students worked under intense deadlines with recycled materials to create fashions that paid tribute to the recovery of the Jersey Shore after Sandy and reaching for your goals.

The program was a joint effort of the school’s art and consumer science programs. Teachers Lucille Barresi, Jennifer Larsen and Jennifer Sarracino run the contest, now in its fifth year, to showcase the talents of the creative students.

The students created new pieces using the tools of the fashion trade, including sewing machines, needle and thread, glue guns, and fabric. The projects all had themes, ranging from a patriotic top hat to a bird’s nest and video game hat.

The winning entry was a handbag made of all recycled materials, including shredded plastic water bottles.

They had just the day to create, and judging from this emerging generation of designers, our fashion future looks environmentally-friendly and whimsy.
