Livingston Mops Up after Heavy Rains
Town cleans up fallen trees, wires after two days of stormy weather.
Livingston was spared from the heaviest part of the rain storm, which swept through much of New Jersey over the past two days. Sunday night, some JCP&L customers in Livingston and Short Hills reportedly without power. By morning, there were no outages reported in Livingston.
Other nearby towns weren't as lucky. In Hoboken, nearly 2,000 PSE&G customers were left without power Monday morning after the heavy rains a transformer explosion.
Wind is not always the main culprit in why trees fall explained Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold of the Livingston Police Department. "With the heavy rains sometimes the ground gets real saturated and soaked and sometimes it softens the roots and the trees fall over," he said.

According to Dippold, there were reports of downed branches and lines, some of which blocked the passage through roadways:
- At 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, a tree on 46 Irving Ave. fell taking down wires and making the roadway impassable, Dippold said. Public service and cable companies responded, as wires were downed and the Livingston Department of Public Works cut the tree down and removed the debris.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, neither PSE&G nor JCP&L were reporting outages in Livingston.
