Livingston Police Ranks Grow
Livingston officials sworn in two new officers and six auxiliary officers.
The ranks of the Livingston Police Department just grew a little bigger this week with the addition of two new officers and six auxiliary volunteer officers.
Police Chief Craig Handschuch introduced new officers Angelo Vella and David Cordero, both of whom are graduates of Morris County College and are currently enrolled in the Essex County Police Academy.
Vella, of Pompton Plains, had served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 9½ years and he served two tours of duty in Iraq, Handschuch said. Cordero worked in healthcare at Saint Clare's Medical Center in Denville, Hanschuch said.

The police chief said both men are fine additions to the department and he anticipated they will graduate from the academy in the fall.
Handschuch also praised the six new auxiliary police officers who were joining their ranks as well: Denis Demuro, Roy Hui, Kevin Mullany, Michael Sosa and David Zalayet.

Mayor Stephen Santola said he continued to be impressed by the high quality of the police officers and local volunteer auxiliary officers who are joining the Livingston department.
He thanked the police chief and Capt. Gary Marshuetz for doing a "great job" in strengthening the township police and the auxiliary police force.
