Livingston Police: Unlocked Cars Entered On 7 Local Streets

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Sometimes the best anti-theft device is your own awareness.

On Thursday, the Livingston Police Department issued an advisory that several unlocked cars were entered during the overnight hours on the following streets: Marlo Rd., Brandon Ave, E. McClellan Ave. (lower end), Riker Hill Rd, N. Ridge Rd., Elmwood Dr., N. Livingston Ave. (north of McClellan Ave).

None of the cars were locked, a slightly-peeved LPD spokesman wrote on the department’s Facebook page.

“I don't understand why so many people continue to leave their cars unlocked,” the LPD officer wrote. “One car was even taken when the suspects found the key fob in the car. Luckily, for unknown reasons, they dropped the car a block away.”

Livingston police are asking any residents with surveillance cameras on the affected streets to review them and alert officers if they find something suspicious at (973) 992-3000, ext. 3500.

Livingston police had one final warning for local residents, written in all caps with three exclamation marks: “PLEASE LOCK YOUR CARS AT NIGHT AND DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KEY FOBS IN YOUR CARS!!!”
