We invite you to celebrate Lunar New Year with us this month at the Livingston Public Library! On Wednesday, January 11th at 4pm, children in grades 3 through 5 will learn how to play the Korean game Yut-Nori and even make their own Yut-Nori game-set to take home! Yut-Nori is a traditional game played during the Lunar New Year. Registration is required for this event. Those interested can register through the Library’s event calendar, here.

The Youth Services wing will be decorated with children’s artwork celebrating Lunar New Year too! Beginning on Tuesday. January 17th, a display of oil paintings, water colors, sketches, oil pastels, as well as works done in markers and crayons will be up for all to see. The featured artists are children between the ages of 6-18 and are taught by Christine Qin Wittlinger (Christine’s Art Studio), who has an art and business degree from China and America. She is currently employed as an art instructor by Livingston Chinese School. The display will run through the end of the month.

Children, teens, and adults are also invited to join us in the Library’s Youth Services Department beginning on Saturday, January 21st to help complete the Library’s Lunar New Year Community Poster Project. Community poster projects are similar to paint-by-numbers, where participants match corresponding stickers to letters on a poster. Participants then watch as the mystery image is revealed throughout the day! Registration is not required to participate in the community poster project.

We hope you have a wonderful Lunar New Year and we look forward to seeing you inside the Library!

Best,

Amy Babcock, Director
