Livingston School Makes Ninja Turtle Halloween Costume For Ailing Child

A six-year-old who suffers from muscular dystrophy will don a unique costume this Halloween thanks to Livingston students and their teacher.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A six-year-old who suffers from muscular dystrophy will don a unique costume this Halloween thanks to students and staff at Heritage Middle School in Livingston: his very own Ninja Turtle demolition derby car.

The wheelchair-bound youngster, “Mighty Craig,” will get his finished car on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Raceway Park in Englishtown. The students’ work has given them a chance to "come out of their own shells" as they help to create something magical for someone else, a Livingston school spokesperson said.

“On Halloween, people are going to see his costume first, not his disability,” Heritage teacher and project coordinator Kenneth Zushma said.

Last year, Zushma was also involved in the creation of a pair of tough-looking unicorn wheelchairs wired with glowing LED lights and rigged to make it seem as if the unicorns were pulling their owners, two teenage Make-A-Wish recipients.
