Livingston Schools Appoints New Superintendent, Swears In 2 Board Members
Livingston's new school superintendent has worn many hats in the district – here's when he will officially begin his new role.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Public School District recently appointed a new superintendent and swore in two school board members.
The board of education appointed Mark Stern as the district’s new superintendent at their meeting on Tuesday. Stern will officially assume his new role on July 1.
A lifelong educator, Stern has worn many hats in the district, serving as an English teacher, English and language arts supervisor, Livingston High School assistant principal, Livingston High School principal, and most recently as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and technology.

Stern holds a bachelor of arts in public communications from American University and two master of arts degrees from Montclair State University: one in teaching (English) and one in administration and supervision. His extensive educational background also includes service as an adjunct professor at The College of New Jersey and active membership in the New Jersey Association of School Administrators.
“Mr. Stern is not a stranger to our halls,” board of education president Parul Khemka said.

According to Khemka, the district’s new superintendent is a “cornerstone of our community” who has spent nearly three decades championing the success of local students.
“As he steps into this new role, we are not just hiring an administrator – we are empowering a proven leader who deeply loves this community and possesses the vision, fiscal responsibility, and heart to guide our children into their bright and successful future,” Khemka said.
Stern said that after spending half of his life working in the Livingston public school system, the community has become a place where he’s grown both as an educator – and as a person.
“Our success has always been rooted in our interconnected strength, and I look forward to working alongside our brilliant staff, innovative administrators, supportive families, committed town leaders, and, most importantly, our passionate students, who bring our buildings to life each day as we continue our tradition of empowering all to learn, create, contribute and grow,” Stern said.
