Mara Rubin, LPS supervisor of Visual and Performing Arts, said that being named a Best Community for Music Education from the NAMM Foundation celebrates the district’s commitment to music education, and the dedication of Livingston’s music teachers, administrators, students, parents, Board of Education, and community members.
"We are very proud to receive this award, as it reaffirms our convictions that a strong music program goes hand in hand with a successful school district," Rubin added.

“It’s worth noting that we have some school communities that have received this recognition year-after-year. A few have been there for 20 years,” said Mary Luehrsen of the NAMM Foundation. “But, every year, new schools and districts are upping their game when it comes to music and the arts, often despite budget and curriculum pressures.”
Other Essex County school districts that earned 2019 NAMM awards included:
- Nutley
- South Orange-Maplewood
- West Essex Regional School District (North Caldwell)
- West Orange
