Livingston Sees Home Burglary, Attempted Burglary On Same Day: Police

Livingston Police: A burglary suspect was apprehended while still inside a local home. A homeowner scared off some would-be intruders.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A home burglary and an attempted home burglary were reported on the same day in Livingston last week, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Livingston Police Department released the following details about the incidents, which took place on Feb. 2. Investigations into both incidents continue, authorities said.

Livingston police officers responded to a home on West McClellan Avenue at 5:26 a.m. after getting a report about a vehicle burglary and an attempted home burglary, authorities said.

The homeowner told officers that unknown suspects tried to steal their BMW X3, which was unlocked at the time. When the car wouldn’t start, the suspects went around to the rear of the house in an attempt to get inside, but the homeowner managed to scare them off, police said.

MONTGOMERY ROAD

Livingston police officers responded to a home on Montgomery Road at 6:57 p.m. after getting a report about a burglary in progress, authorities said.

The homeowner said he learned about the burglary via his surveillance cameras, which captured footage of the intruder inside his home.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect – later identified as Julio-Cesar Ocampo-Valdes, 35, of Maspeth, NY – finding him still inside the home.

According to police, a rear window was smashed and the bedroom of the home had been ransacked.

Police charged Ocampo-Valdes with burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage. He was released on a summons, authorities said.
