LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston senior citizens and youth will once again prove that the generation gap is only as large as you make it during the town’s annual “Intergenerational Prom.”

According to a news release, the free event – now going on for more than three decades – is a collaboration between Livingston Public Schools, the Township of Livingston and the Livingston High School Key Club. This year, it will be held on Tuesday, April 9 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Livingston High School.

The event is open to Livingston residents age 62 and older. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are available at township’s Senior, Youth, and Leisure Services (SYLS) office at 204 Hillside Avenue.

“The intergenerational prom offers a magical evening of dinner, music, and dancing to local senior citizens – free of charge. During the event, LHS Key Club and Leo Club members serve as hosts and hostesses, attentively waiting on their honored guests making sure that they have everything they need. Later in the evening, club members switch to the role of dance partners, enthusiastically “getting down” to popular tunes and classics with their guests. The “crowning” moment of the evening is the naming of the prom King and Queen. Last year, Key Club member David Lin, and senior citizen Ruth Cross, were chosen for the honor. This year, the Queen will be a high school student, while the King will be an older adult.”

Organizers said that the event earned national attention last year when Key Club International's partner, Nickelodeon, chose to feature the LHS Key Club as its "Halo Shout Out" for July.

In addition, the Intergenerational Prom received a 2018 Excellence in Programming Award from the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association. The prom committee was honored by the Township Council with a proclamation at a recent meeting.
