Livingston Town Council Votes To Extend Property Tax Grace Period
The Livingston Town Council voted to take advantage of Gov. Phil Murphy's executive order 130. Here's what it means for your local taxes.
LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Town Council voted Friday to take advantage of Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order 130, which allows the municipality to extend the second quarter property tax payment grace period to June 1, rather than May 11.
The second quarter property tax payment due date remains May 1, Livingston town officials stated in a news release.
As long as property taxes are paid by June 1, there will be no interest charged. However, if taxes are not paid until after the June 1 extended grace period ends, interest will be charged retroactively back to the May 1 original due date, officials stated.

In addition, the council had previously voted to lower the interest rate on 2nd quarter delinquent taxes to 6 percent, so any interest charged will be at that lower rate, officials said.
“In taking these actions, the Township Council has implemented the only two forms of taxpayer relief that were legally available, in the interest of easing the economic burden on residents to the greatest extent possible,” Livingston officials stated.
