NJ Transit Bus, Car Crash In Livingston, 1 Dead, 3 Hurt: Official

A NJ Transit bus and a car collided near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Latham Court, officials said.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A NJ Transit bus leaving the Livingston Mall and a car collided near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Latham Court on Wednesday afternoon, killing one person and injuring three others, authorities said.

The collision took place around 1:16 p.m. and involved the No. 70 bus, which was headed to Newark Penn Station at the time of the crash. The bus was carrying four riders and the driver, three of which suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A NJ Transit spokesperson couldn't immediately specify which of the five occupants were injured.

"Initial reports indicate that the auto pulled in front of the path of the bus, which resulted in the bus making contact with the auto," the spokesperson said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the crash claimed the life of the driver of the car, an elderly woman whose further identity was not immediately available. She was pronounced dead on the scene, prosecutors said.

Livingston police told NJ.com they are investigating a fatal crash but declined to elaborate further.

The Livingston Police Department closed a portion of South Orange Avenue on Wednesday after the crash, stating:

“S. Orange Ave is closed between Walnut St and JFK Pkwy due to a mv accident. Please plan an alternate route.”

North Jersey FireNews reported a possible “car into the woods with entrapment.”
