Livingston Welcomes New Mayor, BOE President

Livingston has a new mayor, deputy mayor, Board of Education president and two new BOE members for 2017.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Some familiar faces have new positions at Livingston’s municipal and school offices. Livingston recently welcomed a new mayor and deputy mayor, as well as a new Board of Education president and two new BOE members.

During the Livingston Township Council reorganization meeting on Monday, council members unanimously approved former deputy mayor Shawn Klein as new mayor. Edward Meinhardt was elected to take Klein’s place as deputy mayor.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

During its reorganization meeting on Tuesday, the Livingston Board of Education swore in a new president, Ronnie Konner. According to school administrators, Konner is a retired teacher with longtime experience on the BOE.

The board also swore in Samantha Messer and George Shen as new members during the meeting.

“Mrs. Messer and Mr. Shen bring a fresh look to the challenges facing the schools as they join the senior members at the table,” school administrators stated. “Pamela Chirls, who was elected vice president, Konner, and Buddy August, have nearly 30 years of board experience.”

“We recognize that it is our responsibility as elected BOE members, not to run the schools, but to see that they are well run,” Konner said.
