Livingston Woman Stole $17K From East Orange School, Prosecutors Allege
A woman has been accused of stealing $17,360 from a high school in Essex County while serving as its treasurer and head secretary.
LIVINGSTON, NJ — A Livingston resident has been accused of stealing $17,360 from a high school in East Orange while serving as its treasurer and head secretary, prosecutors announced Friday.
Khaliah Johnson, 44, of Livingston, has been charged with third-degree theft, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Johnson allegedly stole the funds from a Cicely Tyson High School of Performing Arts fundraising account between July 2024 and June 2025. She is accused of writing checks from the account and using the funds for personal expenses.

Johnson has since resigned from her position at the school, prosecutors said.
Johnson’s first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 26.
