Livingston's New Mayor Takes Oath: Al Anthony Takes The Helm

Livingston, NJ – Livingston’s new mayor Al Anthony has officially taken the helm.

“I’m looking forward to pushing good ideas to the top of the agenda this year,” Anthony said at a swearing-in ceremony at the Livingston Senior Community Center on Friday.

The Livingston Township Council also officially appointed new Deputy Mayor, Shawn Klein, Assistant Township Attorney Michael Berliner and Municipal Public Defender Marc D. Garfinkle, as well as several township committee members during the reorganizational meeting.

According to an online biography, Anthony - a member of the Livingston Planning Board, the Green Team and the Environmental Commission - is a shareholder with Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer P.A., who practices in the area of environmental contamination, chemical exposure, asbestos exposure, pharmaceutical torts, and products liability litigation.

Anthony was nominated for the New Jersey State Bar Association Young Lawyer of the Year in 1996 and 1997. In 2006, he received the NJBIZ Forty Under Forty award and New Jersey Rising Star Award. He was selected for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers from 2008-present and in New Jersey Best Lawyers in America list from 2010-present.

According to TAP Into Livingston, Anthony ran on a platform that included plans to:

• Maintain the municipal tax rate
• Encourage and increase the programs and level of community volunteerism in Livingston
• Investigate ways to reduce operating costs through sharing services with neighboring towns
• Introduce companies to the benefits of doing business in Livingston
