Livingston's 'Odd-Even' Lawn Watering Law Is In Effect

Livingston residents who plan on keeping their lawn green this summer might also want to keep track of the day of the week.
On Tuesday, township officials sent out a release reminding residents that Livingston has an “odd-even” watering restriction in place.
Houses with odd-numbered addresses can water only on odd-numbered days, and houses with even-numbered addresses can water only on even-numbered days.

“Our goal is to ensure that our residents will have a consistent level of water during periods of peak demand in July and August,” Public Works Superintendent Mike Anello stated.
Violators can be subject to a $1,000 maximum fine for each offense.

Exceptions include:
- Watering lawns by a commercial enterprise engaged in the installation or repair of lawn irrigation system
- Daily watering of lawns following treatment with fertilizer, pesticide or herbicide
- Watering of trees, shrubs, vegetable and flower gardens
- Daily watering of newly sod lawns or a newly seeded grass lawn is allowed for the first 45 days after planting
