Mitzvah Morning @ B'nai Abraham

On Sunday, March 1, members of the Temple B'nai Abraham congregational family gathered for "Mitzvah Morning."

On Sunday, March 1, members of the Temple B’nai Abraham congregational family gathered for “Mitzvah Morning”, sponsored by the TBA Social Action Committee and the Membership Committee with the Men’s Club, Sisterhood, Early School Parents’ Council and Jewish Learning Program PTA. Members of all ages participated together in a gratifying and rewarding morning of activities and volunteering to benefit those in need in our neighboring communities.

In the months leading up to Mitzvah Morning there were ongoing collections for local organizations, to which temple members gave generously, including coloring books and crayons, and new or gently-used infant clothes for Wynona’s House in Newark; used eyeglasses and new/unopened contact lenses donated to New Eyes for the Needy in Millburn, as well as used cell phone to be distributed by NCJW, Essex County Section.

On that Sunday morning several hundred supporters came to help and together accomplished numerous volunteer projects such as: donated many pints of blood to Community Blood Services; packed 500 nonperishable lunches for Bridges; assembled 100 Shabbat boxes with handmade cards and challah covers for hospital patients; decorated and delivered 100 cupcakes to the local fire station, police station and first aid squad; packed 500 Yom HaShoah candles to be sent to members of the congregation in observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day and TBA’s Teen Tikkun Olam Group assisted those with questions about their computers, smart phones, laptops, iPhones and iPads at a Tech Support table. Lisa Reisboard, Social Action Committee Chair and Membership Co-Chairs Marjorie Zucker and Ken Starr stewarded Mitzvah Morning.
