New Jersey Youth Chorus Presents Annual Spring Concert
New Jersey Youth Chorus Spring Concert
Morristown, NJ – Capping off its banner 23rd season, the New Jersey Youth Chorus (NJYC)—an auditioned community-based choral music education program—presents its highly anticipated spring concert, Sunday, May 17, 3pm, at Ridge High School, 268 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge.
The NJYC’s five choral ensembles will take the stage to perform a vibrant mix of works ranging from classical to folk, gospel, and contemporary. Program highlights include A La Cart, a fun, witty work with a nod to Mozart; Richard Rodgers’ popular There is Nothin’ Like a Dame; and Moira Smiley’s lively arrangement of They’re Red Hot featuring spirited body percussion. Other selections celebrate the richness of world music, including inspiring works from Jim Papoulis’ “Small Voices” series and two Ethan Sperry compositions: Jai Bhavani, performed in Sanskrit, and the celebratory Wedding Qawwali, both featuring Indian instrumentation.
“The concert audience will be treated to a lovely afternoon of beautiful music performed by children and young singers expressing themselves joyfully through song,” says NJYC artistic director Trish Joyce. “For our choristers, this concert is a culmination of their hard work and many wonderful choral experiences throughout the season.”
