Newark Academy Aced by Millburn

Minutemen lose close tennis match against rival.

It was a big win for Millburn High's boys varsity tennis team Monday when it defeated conference rival Newark Academy 3-2.

The Minutemen took the first two matches. Reid Schalet and Adam Hyatt beating Millburn's Chen-Schmidt brothers, Sebastian and Nicky, at second doubles, 6-3, 6-2.  Next, Minuteman Grant Schalet bested Miller Teddy Moskovitz 6-4, 6-2.

From then on, it was Miller time. Millburn's Rob Xie, at first singles, defeated Daniel Eatroff in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Miller second singles Jared Wishnow beat back a second-set rally by Newark Academy's Om Pathak for a final score of 6-3, 7-5.

Millburn's first doubles duo Nikhil Vohra and Dan Feldman won the deciding match in a hard-fought three-setter that lasted more than two hours. They defeated Neil Sethi and Logan Ericson of Newark Academy, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Millburn's victory brings its Super Essex Conference, American Division record to 6-0, and its overall record to 8-2. Tuesday the Millers head to the opening rounds of the Essex County Tournament in Branch Brook Park in Newark.
