On the Track: Elkaim's All-American Run
Livingston girls break the school's distance medley relay record.

Jeramy Elkaim was ecstatic to be standing on the podium as an All-American, but the Livingston distance running star was far from satisfied.
Elkaim got what he came for in terms of his third place finish in the boys 5-K (3.1 miles) at last Thursday's New Balance Nationals at Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C., but his time of 14:54.62 wasn't quite what he had in mind.
"Being on that podium was cool, but I'm not happy with the time,'' said Elkaim. "But it was my first time with the 5-K. Hopefully next week I can drop 30 seconds.''
The next week Elkaim is referring to is the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships where Elkaim will run the 5-K this Saturday on his future home track at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Two days after his All-American finish in the 5-K in Greensboro, Elkaim returned to the track and split 4:15.97 to anchor Livingston to a 16th place finish in the boys distance medley in 10:26.50.
The first three legs were handled by junior Nick Fogarty (3:07.98 for 1,200), junior Kieran Tonero (57.03 for 400) and senior Dave Coleman (2:05.54 for 800).
Mewnwhile, the Livingston girls fulfilled a season long quest to break the school's distance medley relay record by running 12:21.14 to finish 13th. That smashed the school DM record by 22 seconds.
Things got off to a great start when Eloissa Cusi led off with a 3:44.34 1,200 leg, a personal best by 10 seconds. Ilana Bier followed with a 62.45 400. Megan Kelly then cranked out a 2:24.4 800, and her sister, Shannon Kelly, finished it off with a 5:09.91 1,600 anchor carry.
