Opening Day: For Pete's Sake

Livingston Little League and Softball gets back in the swing.

Opening day was Peter J. Cilenti Day in Livingston.

On the field that bears his name, Mayor Rudy  Fernandez and members of the township council, Deputy Mayor Stephen Santola and Council Member Michael Rieber, presented Pete with a proclamation from the township, which celebrated his 50 years of service to the Livingston National Little League & Softball Program.

During his 50-year tenure as a coach, chain manager and board member, Pete has overseen the introduction of the very successful girls softball program being added to the Little League baseball program, a new field house, and he played a major role in the designing of additional fields such as D'Alonzo Field.

In 2001, the Livingston National Little League & Softball Complex was renamed the Peter J. Cilenti Complex in his honor. Pete continues to oversee field maintenance at the complex to this day where he watched his sons and now his grandson play and grow.
