Police Blotter: Burglary and Theft

A home burglary, stolen vehicle and theft of landscaping equipment mark this week's blotter.

Livingston Police responded to the following calls:

May 5: At about 5:30 p.m. a Livingston police officer was on patrol near the Livingston Mall when the automatic license plate reader (a piece of computer equipment installed in the vehicle) detected that a stolen car, reported missing a few days earlier in East Orange, was passing nearby.
The officer followed the car, a green 2001 Infinity, into the parking lot of the mall and then stopped the driver, identified as Samuel Bryant, 43, of Newark, who then placed under arrest.  Bryant was released on $5,000 bail and the case referred to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

May 6: Police received two different, but similar calls in the morning.

Dan Ialeggio called police to report someone had broken into his shop at 105 Dorsa Avenue and that power tools and various pieces of landscaping equipment, including blowers and mowers, were missing.  Ialeggio also reported his box truck, which also had equipment store in it, was missing.

Police recovered the truck  a few days later in Elizabeth, near Routes 1 and 9. Equipment is still missing.

In a separate incident, Roger Linnett reported that landscaping equipment was missing from his stationary storage container located at 119 Dorsa Avenue.

Police are looking for  two full-sized vans — a red and blue van — that were seen in the area on Wednesday evening.  If anyone has any information concerning the vans, please call the Police Department at 973-992-3000.

May 9: At about 1:30 p.m., resident Rachele Rosenberg called police to report that it appeared that her home at 28 Scarsdale Drive had been burglarized.

Ms. Rosenberg, who had been away from her home since the night of May 7, returned home to find her bedroom in disarray.  Jewelry boxes were found on the floor, with several pieces of jewelry missing.

When police officers searched the home, they found a rear window open and a chair propped against it.  Also, the window's screen was bent.  Police filed a burglary and theft report.
