Police Investigating Burglaries

Series of break-ins and attempted burglaries in past week.

two home burglaries and two attempted home break-ins were reported in the last week, according to Livingston Police.

On June 24, at about 4:45 p.m., police received a call from the homeowner at 248 E. Cedar Street, who indicated that someone had kicked in her front door, after ringing her doorbell.  The homeowner didn't answer the bell, but instead called the police.

When police showed up on the scene, they noticed a man getting into a Jeep in the driveway.  Police stopped the man, George Scott, 35, of Neptune and placed him under arrest for attempted burglary and criminal mischief.  There was severe damage to the front door.

On June 28, a little before noon, a burglar alarm from the home at 157 Laurel Avenue sounded for police. On scene, police found the rear door of the home kicked in, but didn't find anyone in or outside the home.  Police indicate the alarm may have scared off the burglar.

Later that same day, just before 6 p.m., the resident at 30 Rossmore Terrace called police to report that his home had been burglarized.  The homeowner had been out for most of the day and returned to find two bedrooms ransacked with jewelry boxes open.  The rear door on the deck of the second floor was broken.

Still that same day, June 28, a little after 6 p.m., police received a call from a homeowner at 236 E. Northfield to report that her home had been burglarized, too. When the homeowner returned home, after being out for much of the day, she found her back door opened — it looked forcibly so — and noticed that a small flat screen television had been taken.  She also reported missing cash and jewelry.

Police are investigating the burglaries and attempted burglaries.  People who may have seen anything or have  information can contact the Detective Bureau at 973-992-3000.  All calls will be kept confidential.
