'Well-Dressed' Burglar Wanted in 4 Bank Break-Ins

Police release photos of suspect inside Hudson City Savings in Livingston.

Livingston police released photos of a well-dressed suspect in a bank break-in over the weekend at Hudson City Savings in the shopping center on Eisenhower Parkway.

According to Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold, the suspect broke a window to enter the bank and attempted to pry open an ATM machine in the bank’s lobby. The suspect left empty handed, Dippold said.

The suspect has also been captured by survelliance photos in banks in Hillside and Little Ferry. He is suspected of breaking into a fourth bank, County Savings in Union, Dippold said. "While there are no photos in Union it's the same MO," Dippold said.

He's seen in the photos carrying a crow bar, which he has used to try to pry open ATM machines and in one case, in Bank of America in Little Ferry, to open a safe. Only in Hillside has he been sucessful, Dippold said.

The break-in at the bank in The Village of Livingston shopping center happened sometime late Friday or early Saturday morning, Dippold said.

Separately, Livingston police are investigating a second break-in during the same time period on the Route 10 Circle.

Dippold said a burglar broke a rear window in the Delta gas station to grab $150 cash from a drawer and jump starter box from the station house.

In releasing the photos from Hudson City Savings, police are asking the public for help identifying the bank suspect. A third photo from the bank shows a vehicle in the parking lot at the shopping center around the time of the break-in. Anyone with information should call (973) 992-3000.
