Police Still Seeking Information on Alleged Credit Card Thief's Identity

Police issued surveillance photos of a man they believe stole credit cards and then used in Short Hills.

Millburn police are still seeking information about the identity of a man they believe stole credit cards and then used them to make purchases in Short Hills.

Police issued photos based on surveillance video of the man a week ago and believe he made $13,000 in faudulent purchases in November and December.

"We have not solved his identity," said Capt. James Miller, police public information officer, on Thursday. "We hope someone can identify him from the photos."

Police described the suspect as a white man who is 25-30 years old with close cropped brown hair. He is approximately five foot, 10 inches tall with medium build. Detectives believe the suspect may have ties to Bergen County.

A week ago police said surveillance videos captured the suspect at Walter Bauman's, which is located at 734 Route 124, the Hilton Short Hills and numerous stores at the Mall at Short Hills. One image shows the suspect in a grey sweatshirt in Walter Bauman's. A second photo shows the suspect entering Burberry's at the mall.

Anyone who can assist in identifying the person in the photographs is asked to contact the Millburn Police Detective Bureau at 973-564-7017.

A Maplewood resident reported someone entered his parked car and stole credit cards, which were then used at several locations. Police said the suspect purchased a $5,500 watch at one of location. The victim told police his car was parked in the lot at 750 Route 124 between 12:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 7. Police said it's believed his car keys were removed from his locker while he was at Can Do Fitness.

A second victim reported someone stole his wallet, $162 in cash and a credit card from his locker at the spa at the Hilton Short Hills on Dec. 5. Police believe the theft happened between 11:10-11:30 a.m. The victim told police he learned someone had used his credit card to make purchases of more than $8,000 at various stores.
