Rain, Rain Go Away: April Showers Leave Their Mark
Storm ending the month causes damage, power outages in town.

April showers may bring May flowers, but if you’re thinking enough is enough, you’re not alone.
Spring rains made for a wet April, delaying the planting of gardens and -- when the weather took a turn for the worse -- causing damage.
In Livingston on Thursday, strong winds downed a primary wire on Shrewsbury Drive. A lane was closed for about three hours as repairs were made, said Fire Chief Christopher Mullin. Meanwhile, a power outage affected Saint Barnabas Medical Center and area traffic lights.

A large tree also fell on South Orange Ave near East Hobart Gap Road blocking several lanes of South Orange Avenue. And that persistent ringing last Thursday was only the sound of residential burglar alarms activated by the wind and power outage, said Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold.

In New Jersey, April proved to be the 9th warmest on record and the 13th wettest, said David Robinson, the state Climatologist.
“I think the warmth fooled people, probably because of the rain and clouds, but also because of perennially misplaced thoughts of what spring weather really brings to New Jersey,” said Robinson, chairman of the Department of Geography at Rutgers University.
