Reminder: Curbside Garbage Collection Begins July 1

The July 1 pick-up will be curbside, not rear yard.

The Township of Livingston has issued a release to remind residents that starting with the Thursday, July 1 regular neighborhood garbage collections, pick-up will be curbside instead of rear yard.

Livingston's current solid waste rear yard collection contract ends on June 30, 2010.  During preparation of the 2010 Municipal Budget, the Township Council determined a change in the collection program was necessary to control costs and provide the service at an affordable price for residents.

At the June 21 Township Council meeting, it was announced that the bid specifications for the Collection, Removal and Disposal of Solid Waste will be amended to include options for rear yard pick-up (at additional cost to residents who would like it).  The first option is for the rear yard pick-up of one garbage container and the second option is for the rear yard pick-up of a maximum of three garbage containers.

Residents choosing rear yard pick-up service will be billed directly by the contractor for the difference in cost between curbside and rear yard pick-up.  This new contract will begin on September 1, 2010.  Costs have yet to be determined.

Beginning July 1, Township residents will place their solid waste containers at curbside for pick-up on their regularly scheduled collection day.  The types of waste collected, frequency of collection and number of containers per collection day remains the same.
