Roof Work on Schools to Begin in Summer
Board approves projects at Harrison, Mt. Pleasant; but rejects bids at Collins and Heritage

Harrison Elementary School, Mt. Pleasant Elementary School and Mt. Pleasant Middle School will be getting new roofs after a Board of education vote Friday.
The board approved a contact to award Pravco, Inc., a $1,795,000 contract for the roof replacement work.
Pravco was the lowest bidder for the roof work, which will commence at the end of the school year and continue through the summer.

At the beginning of the month, after the project was initially put out to bid, the board rejected all of the bids for the roofing project that were received on the basis that they substantially exceeded the board's cost estimates.
The board re-bid the project and received three bids at the second public bid opening. Pravco, of Rahway, was deemed the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.

The board on Friday also rejected bids for the roofing projects at Collins Elementary School and Heritage Middle School. Again, bids received for the second time exceeded the board's cost estimates.
The roofing projects at the various schools, along with other capital improvements for schools, were approved by voters in a referendum in December.
