Roster Of Service Events And Crafts Planned For MLK Day In Livingston

Create kits for the homeless, do a craft, create a thank-you card for sanitation workers, and more in Livingston on Monday.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Want to turn a day off into a day to help others? The Livingston Committee for Diversity & Inclusion announced a slew of Martin Luther King Day events for this Monday, from making crafts for creating thank-you cards for sanitation workers.

The Committee will celebrate and honor the life and teachings of King by hosting this "Day of Service" in person from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be hands-on service and crafts projects, and the event will end with a special program, Stronger Together, presented by the Livingston Clergy Fellowship.

Here are just some of the organizations involved, and their activities:

  • Livingston League of Women Voters: Voter registration
  • Livingston Police Department: Anti-bullying poster contest
  • Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Making sandwiches and collecting non-perishable food items for the food pantry
  • Kiwanis Club of Livingston: Collecting socks, hats and gloves, in addition to assembling warm weather kits for the homeless
  • Outdoor Service Guides: Making thank-you cards for local sanitation workers
  • West Essex YMCA Togetherhood: Conducting a craft project
  • Lions Club of Livingston: Conducting vision screening
  • Livingston Rotary Club: Conducting a craft project on Dr. King’s teachings
  • North NJ Chapter of the National Charity League: Collecting books
  • Livingston High School Jewelry Making Club: Making jewelry to be given to those in need
  • Young Men’s Service League: Collecting non-perishable food for Bridges Outreach
  • Mount Pleasant Middle School HSA: Collecting socks, diapers, and wipes to be donated to Livingston Philanthropies for distribution to shelters.

There will also be a story/craft project for children led by LCDI member Simone Anthony-Brown (Express Yourself Studios) at the top of each hour. The LCDI is requesting that interested individuals or groups pre-register at https://www.signupgenius.com/g... .

Organizers said, "Please join Livingston area religious leaders, town officials, and those of all ages from around our community as we share in the sacred duty of standing together. Our service will mark the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream of bending the moral arc of the universe forever toward justice.

"Making time to volunteer for the MLK Day of Service is a great way to engage with your community while honoring the legacy of Dr. King. Every act of kindness to those less fortunate in our greater community makes a world of difference."

The event will be in person at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave. starting at 10 a.m.
