Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Community Shine a Light on Lung Cancer

Saint Barnabas Medical Center joined 200 sites nationwide by hosting Shine A Light on Lung Cancer during Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November. Shine A Light is the largest lung cancer awareness event held nationally to bring together lung cancer survivors, those newly diagnosed and their family and friends. This event is about transforming lung cancer from a disease that no one talks about to one that receives increased attention and compassion.

Updates on treatment options, clinical trials and support programs available at The Lung Cancer Institute Center at Saint Barnabas were provided by a panel of experts from Saint Barnabas which included Andrew Brown, MD, Medical Oncologist, Brijal Desai, MD, Radiation Oncologist, and Subroto Paul, MD, MPH, Director of Thoracic Surgical Services. Ide Mills, lung cancer survivor, shared her perspective in dealing with a lung cancer diagnosis and lead a special tribute.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States though research shows that it is most curable when diagnosed at an early stage. To help keep the community well, The Lung Cancer Institute Center at Saint Barnabas offers a free lung cancer screening to those 50 to 74 years of age who are identified as being high-risk for developing lung cancer to detect abnormalities earlier.
