The event included music, dancing and other activities that showcase the "richness of Hispanic culture."

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Committee for Diversity and Inclusion (LCDI) recently hosted its second annual Sazón event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The festivities took place at Livingston Town Hall on South Livingston Avenue. The day included a flag-raising and a parade to the Gazebo at the Memorial Oval on Robert Harp Drive, in addition to music, dancing and other activities that showcase the “richness of Hispanic culture.”

“Sazón is not just about reflecting on our rich Hispanic heritage; it’s about looking forward and building our community together,” said event chair Laura Tamayo.

“We seek to raise awareness, foster respect, learn from each other, and be inclusive,” they said. “This event accomplishes that and brings together people from around the community to learn from each other and celebrate through food, music and dance.”

The township offered a glimpse into the event’s origin in a news release:

“The vision for Sazón came from Jessica Aldana, a 2024 Livingston High School graduate who attended the prestigious three-week scholarship program, “Caminos al Futuro” — “Pathways to the Future” — at George Washington University. During this program, Aldana delved into the social, economic, and political transformations affecting Hispanics/Latinos across the United States. Reflecting on her experience, Aldana shared, “I decided to plan a festival to celebrate our Hispanic heritage in Livingston and let everyone know that we’re here and are part of our growing diverse community. Sazón is a tribute to the unique flavors and colors that the Hispanic culture brings to our town.”

Event sponsors included Assado, Belair Services, Belair Transport, Livingston Academy, and M. Vega Group.
