A shoplifting attempt turned into a struggle between the suspect and loss prevention staff at the Macy's in the Livingston Mall, police say.
LIVINGSTON, NJ — A shoplifting attempt turned into a struggle between the suspect and loss prevention workers at the Macy’s in the Livingston Mall last week, authorities said Tuesday.
According to the Livingston Police Department, officers responded to the store at 3:38 p.m. on Aug. 20 after getting a report about an alleged shoplifter who was fighting with Macy’s loss prevention staff.

“Upon officers’ arrival, the suspect – Samaad Terrell, 30, of Newark – was seen actively resisting loss prevention. Officers immediately placed Terrell under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with robbery and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. A loss prevention officer was treated for a laceration to the right elbow.”
Livingston police said Terrell has been linked to two other recent shoplifting incidents at the store, and had eight active shoplifting-related warrants at the time of his arrest.
Terrell is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, police said.
