Snapshot: Students Honored

BOE cites various students.

Before the school year comes to a close, the Board of Education congratulated various students at Monday's meeting for recent achievements.

Several Heritage Middle School students received honors in the 2010 French National Exam.  Students cited include Michelle Bao, Kevin Kwok, Crystal Song, Grace An, Helen Chen, Jennifer Su, Sibo Wang, Kyle Levy, Valerie Schnapp, Sihan Wang, Ben Traskunov, Veda Nambi, Edward Chin, Fizza Fahim, Logan Grossman Rhiea Raju, Tim Rancoober, Wangle Wang and Lindsey Wu.

Many Livingston High School students placed in the 2010 French National Exam, too, including Alexandra Pumilia, Lukasz Samojlik, Alison Bergman, Anthony Fischer, Scarlet Ferman, Sharon Chen, Justine Jeng, Daniel Mazour, Alexander Nie, Lindsey Sokol, Dara Baldwin, Janet Want, Julie Berman, Kristin McKenna and Angeline Apostolou.

In another language, several Livingston High School students garnered honors in the National Spanish Exam including Rebecca Katcher, Lucy Zhou, Lucas Ferraz, Genie Saiegh, Eric Katcher, Simi Matta, Mayer Chalom, Kevin Sun, Peter Yao, Rachel Fuerstman, Nicholas Fogarty, Joseph Aboud, Lauren Dzera, Benjamin Leff, Zachary Lustbader, Scott Hare, Abhi Shah, Joy Ming, Maria Chen, Marlena Idrobo, Emma Fridel, Jennifer Chi, Iris Chiu, Charlene Francois, Solange Luftman and Sneha Patel.

The chemistry, biology and physics team at the high school took home honors in the New Jersey Science League. The chemistry team is comprised of Angel Zhu, Justine Jang, Will Boni, Stephanie Chan, Jason Cai, Lucy Zhou, Zach Lustbader, Alex Nie, Saagar Deshpande, Peter Yao, Kevin Sun and Justin Yu. The biology team members include Marcia Chen, Eric Kang, Jenny Wang, Dan Chi, Jack Wang, Anne Yu, Jenny Yeung, Cynthia Chen, Sarah Tse, Raymond Cai, Kevin Shi, Paul Kim, Joy Ming and Penny Hung.

The physics team includes Jon Rockower, Scott Sperling, Andi Chen, Ben Wang, Sarah Tse, Jeffrey Tai, Mary Xia, Alin Ponici, Jeff Yan, Matt Strumeyer, Collin Stocks, David Li, Shen Wang, Sara Pasternak and Clarence Leung.

Livingston High School's Christopher Yap was a recipient of the 2010 GE Foundation Star Award.

Also, Livingston High School students Zach Lustbader and Alex Nie were among the top 150 students as part of the Chemistry Olympiad.

Several Livingston High School students participated in the Merck State Science Day Program that was comprised of different teams including integrated science, biology, chemistry, physics and advanced science. The students included Mike Boa, Jonathan Rockower, Felis Hsiao, Megan Kelly, Vincent Qiu, Matt Tse, Saagar Deshpande, Tim Kunisky, Jason Liao, Matt Viggiano, Josh Miller, Alan Ponici, Jeffrey Yan, David Li, Larence Leung, Sarah Tse, Kevin Shi, Jeff Tai, Stephanie Chen, Ray Cai, Alex Nie, Peter Yao, Justin Yu, Kevin Sun and Zach Lustbader.

Livingston High School's James Pisciotti and Shanna Twomey collected awards as part of the Annual New Jersey High School Sculpture competition by The Shore Institute of Contemporary Arts.

Both Jennifer Brodsky and Angie Gokham of Living High School were part of the Morris Museum's Fresh Perspectives exhibit.  Also, Livingston High School's Pollyanna Yim garnered the Best in Show award for her painting Scolio as part of the 29th annual Congressional Art Competition; her work was selected to hang in the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. for a year.
