In partnership with the Master Gardeners of Essex County

In the first workshop, “Starting Plants from Seed”, on Saturday, March 16th, participants will learn the proper way to sow seeds and experience the joy of “starting from scratch.”
“Planting from seed offers one the opportunity to experience growing a wider variety of flowers and vegetables” adds Fran.
Participants who wish to continue with the next class on transplanting are encouraged to bring their seedlings to class.
The second workshop on “Transplanting techniques” is on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Transplanting is the natural next step in the growing process. After the seeds germinate, tender seedlings are moved into a new soil, and proper care is essential for their continued healthy growth and development. In this session Fran will teach correct techniques for handling young transplants and the essentials of care and feeding that will promote a successful transplant of the young plant into the garden.

On Friday May 3rd, in the session “Soils and Fertilizers” Fran will take a look at how soils can be modified to set the stage for productive growing, and will examine fertilizers for their appropriateness for your veggies and flowers.
All workshops are hands-on and all materials will be provided. They all run from 11 am to 12.30 pm.
The workshops are open to Livingston Library cardholders and space is limited; registration is required and starts March 1st; you can register for one, two or all 3 sessions.
