Stars Win Street Hockey Tournament

Local youth street hockey league holds Stanley Cup tournament.

The Sports U Academy’s Street Hockey League concluded a thrilling season recently with the Stars defeating the Canadiens, 4–1.

The Stars include coaches Brian Koppel and Scott Merlin and players Jesse Koppel, Itai Merlin, Drew Rabinowitz, Zeke Rabinowitz, Eli Fishbein, Isaac Mendelson, Ethan Moses, Jason Wasserman, Justin Scavalla, Sammy Mayer and Noah Wolk.

Street hockey is a variation of ice hockey, with the difference being the players compete without skates. The six teams, made of first through fourth graders, included the Blackhawks, Bruins, Canadiens, Penguins, Sharks and Stars.

The teams competed in an seven-game season with a two-week round robin playoff, finishing with the Cup game. Only eight points separated first and sixth place finishes. 

A special thanks to the National Hockey League, for donating a Stanley Cup replica, which each member of the winning team will have for one week. After the tour, the Cup will be returned the Sports U Academy’s Livingston location, awaiting the 2012/2013 season.
