Student Arrested for Break-In at Milton School

The following arrest information was supplied by the Livingston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A priest at Saint Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church spotted an alleged burglar climbing into a window of a school on church property and called for help in time for police to arrive while the suspect was still inside the school, Livingston police said.

Police chased the suspect from the school and into woods that border the church property. An officer arriving to assist arrested the would-be burglar on Mountain Ridge Drive, said Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold.

According to the police report, a priest inside the St. Raphael’s rectory on Saturday witnessed the suspect climbing into a window at the Milton School about 11 a.m. He called police who arrived while the burglar was still inside the school. Officers found drawers opened in an office. The Milton School is a non-profit day school that rents space from the church. It serves students with learning, behavioral and social problems.

Police arrested Wesley Darling, 18, of Newark, a student at the school, who was charged with burglary. The Livingston Municipal Court set bail at $5,000. Darling was unable to post bail and was transported to the county jail. The charges have been sent to Essex County Superior Court, Dippold said.

Nun Hurt in Route 10 Crash

Police provided additional information on the that tied up traffic for hours on Mount Pleasant Avenue (Route 10).  Sister Maria Daconceicao of Newark, a member of the Vocationist Sisters of Florham Park, was injured in the accident. She was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to the accident report.

Daconceicao said she was tired and lost control of her car, a 2011 Toyota Sienna, Det. Sgt. Anthony Dippold said. She hit a utility pole, which broke and leaned precariously over the road. Police closed a section of Route 10 between the traffic circle and Hillside Avenue for most of the day June 10 until crews arrived to replace the pole and wires. No summons has been issued at this time, according to the police report.
