Thanks to everyone who’s joined and supported the courageous water protectors from the Gulf Coast and their allies as they resist Formosa Plastics illegal and toxic dumping in the Lavaca Bay in Texas and oppose their unjust plans to further expand their polluting plants in environmental justice communities. At the most recent rally outside Formosa Plastics’ U.S. headquarters, Goldman award winning activist, community leader and author Diane Wilson and two others with the San Antonio Bay Waterkeepers were arrested as they attempted to peacefully deliver a letter requesting a meeting with company executives. A trial has now been set for Thursday, January 30th.

Gulf Coast protectors are demanding accountability from Formosa Plastics amidst their flagrant and ongoing violations of a settlement under the Clean Water Act which ordered that there be zero discharge of plastic from their polluting plant into the Lavaca Bay. That settlement also fined the company $50 million and required regular monitoring at their Point Comfort plant. At the December rally in Livingston NJ Diane Wilson stated, “Clearly Formosa Plastics sees the millions in fines for 729 violations, including dumping of toxins into waterways as - THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS. We say NO! The destruction of water, land, and air, and harming of workers and communities around the world, must stop NOW!”

Groups including San Antonio Bay Waterkeepers, Food and Water Watch and Texas Campaign for the Environment are among the organizations working to educate the public about Formosa Plastics record of harming workers, community, and the environment, and they are mobilizing for the defense of the activists.

Let me tell you about the two defendants on trial on January 30:
Diane Wilson is the Executive Director, San Antonio Bay Estuarine Waterkeeper, Texas, and the Goldman Environmental Prize Winner who won a landmark case against Formosa Plastics, one of the world’s largest petrochemical companies, for the illegal dumping of toxic plastic waste on Texas’ Gulf Coast. The $50 million settlement is the largest award in a citizen suit against an industrial polluter in the history of the US Clean Water Act.
Camryn Edwards is a staff member at San Antonio Bay Estuarine Waterkeeper, and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, TX.
The third arrestee opted to plead guilty.

This was Ms Wilson’s second arrest and Ms Edwards’ first arrest at Formosa Plastics’ USA headquarters in Livingston, NJ. On August 2nd, 2024, more than 70 protestors–including clergy, parents, and environmental justice leaders from around the country – gathered at Formosa’s USA headquarters in Livingston, New Jersey. Six of us were arrested. Four, known as the Formosa4, are pressing for an appeals court judge to hear our necessity defense. No trial has been set yet for the case of the arrests of the Formosa4 on August 2, 2024

I'm sure many Livingston residents are not aware of the role of this corporation in harming the lives of people and environment in Texas, Louisiana, Vietnam, and other areas in the world. environment. Let me explain.

Formosa Plastics Group has a long history of violating environmental laws and destroying communities. Groups throughout the world have been working to increase public awareness of Formosa Plastics and its history as a bad actor and their efforts to avoid accountability for the pollution they are responsible for in Texas, Louisiana, and across the globe. Groups also see plastics production as a major source of fossil fuel pollution and cause of climate disasters.
