Teen Driver Caught With Alcohol and Drugs

Police find illegal substances after driver is involved in accident.

A 17-year old Livingston teenager was taken into custody following a car accident near E. Northfield Road and Sycamore Avenue at about 3 p.m. on June 2, police report.

When a police officer approached the teen's car following the minor accident, he noticed a bottle of vodka was sticking out of her purse, which was in the front seat. Upon further inspection, a marijuana pipe and small bag of marijuana were also found, police said.  The teen was not charged with a motor vehicle violation, but was taken into custody for the drugs and alcohol.

Also on the blotter this week, police were called to the Wachovia Bank inside St. Barnabas Hospital at about 3:40 p.m. on June 3 because a customer tried to pass a counterfeit check for $2,491.52.   Mark Macon, 37, from Irvington was arrested and charged with attempting to issue a fraudulent check, police report.  He was released on $7,500 bail.

On June 7, at about noon, when a police officer was on patrol in the area of S. Orange Avenue near Livingston Mall, the detection monitoring device in the police car noticed a car passing by that had stolen license plates (from a car that had been reported stolen in New York in April).  The officer followed the car, a 2007 red Mazda CX7, to the mall.  The driver, Fabian Argudo, 33, from Elizabeth, was unable to produce a valid driver's license, motor vehicle registration and proof of insurance for the car.   Argudo was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (the plates) and trying to pass a fake identification, along with driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.  He was released on $5,000 bail.
