A 27-year-old man was killed by gunfire this past weekend in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

A 27-year-old man was killed by gunfire this past weekend in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The office initially and incorrectly reported his age as 17.

At approximately 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, Newark Police responded to a report of shots fired on Kent Street. When they arrived, they discovered Justin Bethea, 27, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:49 a.m., according to the ECPO.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
