The Weekly Rundown

With the NJSIAA tournaments in full tilt, Lancer athletes will be very busy this week.

The high school sports winter season is winding down, but that means it's just beginning to heat up. The NJSIAA tournaments are in full swing, and Livingston faces some tough challenges this week.

The Lancer boys bowling team earned a sectional title last week, and advance to the Group finals and Tournament of Champions on Saturday at Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick. Junior Scott Sperling (256-666) and sophomore Brandon Gershon (242-565) placed in the top nine individually and will compete in the boys individual Tournament of Champions on Wednesday also at Carolier.

Livingston grapplers will look to defend their District 14 championship on Friday and Saturday at Livingston High School. After failing to capture the championship in 07' and 08', Livingston had won nine team district crowns in a 10-year span from 1997-2006. The pairings will not be released until Tuesday or Wednesday, but expect the Lancers to contend for another title. The highlighted class is at 112 pounds where Belleville sophomore and defending district champion Justin Colon will look to avenge a pair regular season defeats at the hands of Livingston freshman Justin Estevez.

The Lancer boys hoops team drew a 14-seed this past week in the NJSIAA state parings, and they will face third-seeded North Bergen when the North I Group IV tournament begins on March 2. The girls team did not qualify.

Check back as the week progresses as we will keep you updated on the district wrestling pairings as soon as they become available.
