The Weekly Rundown

Five Lancer wrestlers in state tournament action highlight this week's slate.

Despite not crowning a region champ, the Livingston High School wrestling team will be well represented in this weekend's state finals at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Jason Estevez (112 pounds), Brandon Bright (145) and Michael Silverberg (215) finished second, and P.J. Farinella (119) and Jason Estevez (135) placed third on Sunday at West Orange High School, qualifying them.

Bright, a senior, is making a second trip down to Atlantic City and has a great shot at placing (top eight).

In North 1 Group IV, No. 14 Livingston (11-11) will travel to third-seeded North Bergen (21-4) in opening round action. It's a tough draw for the Lancers, winners of two of their last three, as three of North Bergen's losses have come to St. Peter's (twice) and St. Joseph Montville.

Sixth-seeded Newark Academy (16-10) will host No. 11 St. Mary Elizabeth (13-9) in Non-Public North B action which looks to shape up as a replay of Saturday's regular season finale between the Minutemen and third-seeded Montclair Kimberly (20-5). Newark Academy was thumped 66-43.

The Newark Academy girls will also be in action as a ninth seed, traveling to No. 8 Morristown Beard (15-8). The Lady Minutemen (15-6) are fresh off a 50-7 (yes, seven) thrashing of Lacordaire on Saturday.
