Truck Strikes, Kills Pedestrian In Livingston: Police

A delivery truck struck and killed a pedestrian on South Orange Avenue in Livingston, authorities say.

LIVINGSTON, NJ -- A delivery truck struck and killed a pedestrian earlier this week on South Orange Avenue in Livingston, authorities say.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. on Wednesday just west of JFK Parkway, when a Star Ledger delivery truck hit a pedestrian, according to a joint statement from Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino and Livingston Police Chief Craig Handschuch.

The pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not immediately identified. A preliminary investigation indicates he appears to be a middle-age Hispanic male, authorities said.

The truck driver, whose credentials were in order, remained at the scene, rendered assistance and called for help, authorities stated.

No criminal charges were filed; an investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
