Crime & Safety

National Night Out: Turning the Light on Crime

Police throw a party with crime prevention theme.

Livingston’s brought scores of residents to the Oval Tuesday night as it drew attention to police anti-crime efforts and delivered on its promise of fun for all. Kids took turns on a water slide and had fun on various inflatable rides. Those children who didn’t feel like bouncing enjoyed face painting, balloons, and carnival games.

Adults casually perused safety/security demonstrations and stopped at tables for Livingston’s newly-formed Neighborhood Watch program, Livingston Patch, the American Red Cross, Grace Lutheran Church, LMAC, LYCS, WDHA radio, the Girl Scouts, and other organizations.

Parents marveled at the amount of freebies that were given out.  “I can’t believe how much stuff my kids have,” exclaimed resident Mya Jabar. In her stroller’s basket were Frisbees, water guns, plastic lizards, tattoos, pens, bracelets, bottles of water, bubbles, key chains, and even a sombrero from Margarita’s.

Other attractions included the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation’s Fire Safety House, McGruff The Crime Dog, Sonny Croughn’s custom trike “DARE 2B BAD,” and landings of the Atlantic Health Care Air One and New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR helicopters.

Patch would like to thank those who stopped by our table to greet local editor Marilyn Joyce Lehren. Special thanks to the gentleman who sang “It’s a Patch-a-licious night!” before running off to catch his sprinting toddler.  It served as a reminder of how lucky we are to be a part of this wonderful town!
