Upcoming Livingston Symphony Orchestra Concert

The Livingston Symphony Orchestra presents "Space...The Final Frontier", featuring music from a galaxy far, far away

Livingston- Coming to suburban Livingston “from a galaxy far, far away” in January 2016 is another intergalactic family event. This year’s annual, beloved Livingston Symphony Orchestra Family Concert, entitled “Space…the Final Frontier,” is on Saturday January 9 at 2:00 pm at the Livingston High School Auditorium, 30 Robert Harp Drive, Livingston NJ.

In his first season as conductor and musical director of the orchestra, Maestro Anthony LaGruth has selected a universal program, one with something to offer every family member, no matter what their level of musical experience or appreciation. Narrator John Palatucci, a professional musician, educator, and recording artist, and the Orchestra take the audience on American composer Daniel Dorff’s travel log trip to space, “Blast Off.” Through this storied piece, all participants clearly hear the distinct musical sounds of the different sections of the orchestra and experience a rocket ship’s launch and mission to the moon and back. Trekkers from all generations can enjoy the bold melodies of several “Star Trek Themes,” with perhaps the one from their favorite television series or movie highlighted. Also recognizable for most is composer Gustav Holst’s “Jupiter- the Bringer of Jollity” from “The Planets,” both exuberant and inclusive of a popular English Folk song. “The Planets’ Mars- the Bringer of War” has an underlying five beat rhythm, both repetitive and menacing, which foreshadows John Williams’ work in his “Star Wars” movie soundtracks. And yes, there is also music from “ET” and “Star Wars”, penned by John Williams for grandparents, parents and their children to enjoy. Free Tofutti sponsored frozen desserts are available at concert’s end. Dress in your favorite Star Wars, Space or Alien character, and participate in a costume contest only if you wish.

You can join the Livingston Symphony Orchestra for “Space…the Final Frontier” at Livingston High School, 30 Robert Harp Drive, Livingston on Saturday January 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at the door, with children under 12 accompanied by an adult and students from 12-18 with ID admitted free of charge.
